A daily headline guessing game in the Wordle mould. One puzzle a day, five guesses, where the answer is a missing phrase from a real news headline.
What’s interesting about it
Real world Headlines
Its based on real world headlines pulled from actual news websites, the player must guess the full headline by filling in the gaps - and sometimes the answer is stranger than fiction. You have 5 attempts before its game over, but the real goal is getting it in as few guesses as possible
Progressive Clues
Initially you can only see the missing words and a fuzzy picture, but each failed attempt unlocks more clues, the number of letters per word, the staring letters and eventually a hint about the nature of the article. But the real slueths will strive to work it out without any those
Technical Details
A Vite and React front end with Supabase hosting the postgres database, and supabase edge fuctions handle validating and resolving the players guesses. News articles and images scraped from free API tiers to build a backlog of source articles for the puzzles. Puzzles are currently manually added for the small pool of playtesters
